How does Termsmith work?

You choose a document type, work through a short questionnaire (typically 10–20 questions), and pay. Your answers are combined with our solicitor-designed clause logic and sent to an AI model, which generates a document tailored to your specific situation. Generation takes 30 seconds to 3 minutes depending on document complexity. The finished document arrives on screen and in your email inbox as a Word file.

What law applies to documents generated on Termsmith?

Every document is governed by the law of England and Wales. Question flows, clause structures and legal references all reflect current English and Welsh law — including the Employment Rights Act 2025, the Renters' Rights Act 2025, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 and other recent legislation. The document itself names England and Wales as the governing jurisdiction.

Why should I trust an AI with my legal documents?

Because the AI is not doing the legal thinking — a solicitor did that. Every Termsmith document is built from a question flow and clause structure designed by an English-qualified solicitor. The AI fills in the variables based on your answers; it does not invent the legal logic. That said, AI-generated documents are drafts, not advice. For straightforward situations they save you significant time and money. For complex, high-value or unusual matters, you should still consult a solicitor.

Are you allowed to do this without being SRA-regulated?

Yes. Generating draft legal documents is not a reserved legal activity under section 12 of the Legal Services Act 2007. Reserved activities (which only authorised persons can perform) include the conduct of litigation, rights of audience in court, conveyancing, probate, notarial acts and oath-administering. Termsmith does none of those. It generates documents — software output, not regulated legal advice.

Do you train AI on my data?

Accepted Answer

No. Your questionnaire answers and the documents we generate are not used to train any AI model — ours, Anthropic's, or anyone else's. Anthropic's commercial terms (which we operate under) explicitly prohibit training on customer data. We chose Anthropic in part because of this position.

What is your refund policy?

If you are not satisfied with your document, email hello@termsmith.co.uk within 7 days of purchase for a full refund. Because documents are generated immediately on payment, you waive your statutory cancellation right under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 at checkout — but our 7-day satisfaction guarantee operates independently of that.

Can I use Termsmith for Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?

No. Termsmith documents are designed for the law of England and Wales only. Scottish and Northern Irish law differ in important ways (Scottish contract law has different formation rules; Northern Irish employment law has separate statutes; both have different property law). Wales follows English law for most commercial purposes but has divergent residential tenancy law. If you need a document for those jurisdictions, consult a local solicitor.
