The Employment Rights Act 2025 received Royal Assent on 18 December 2025 and introduces the most significant changes to UK employment law in a generation. Here is what you need to know as an employer.

Statutory Sick Pay from day one. The three-day waiting period and the lower earnings limit have both been abolished. SSP is now payable from the first day of sickness absence at per week or 80% of average weekly earnings, whichever is lower. This affects every employer — particularly those with part-time, casual, or zero-hours workers who previously did not qualify.
